Our Church History
Arise Baptist Church was born out of a burden to reach the city of Portland with the truth and hope of the Gospel. In 2024, Pastor Nathan Leierer and his family followed God’s leading to plant a new church in Southwest Portland. With the support of sending churches and missions partners, Arise Baptist held its first services in the spring of 2024.
What began with a small group of believers has remained a close-knit congregation, steadily laying the groundwork for long-term ministry in Portland. While we are still small, we have a deep desire to grow into a vibrant, Christ-centered church that impacts our city with the Gospel. Each new step—whether through Bible teaching, community outreach, or welcoming new families—is a testimony of God’s faithfulness and our commitment to the mission He has given us.
Today, Arise Baptist Church continues to preach Christ, build lives on the Word of God, and cultivate a culture of grace, truth, and discipleship in the heart of Portland.
About Our Pastor
Nathan Leierer is the founding pastor of Arise Baptist Church in Portland, Oregon. He and his wife are blessed with six children, and together they are committed to serving the Lord with their lives and their home. Nathan has a heart for the Gospel, strong biblical preaching, and local church ministry that strengthens families and communities. With a background in pastoral ministry and missions, he is passionate about equipping believers to grow in their faith and fulfill the Great Commission.
Nathan’s vision for Arise Baptist Church is rooted in Ephesians 5:14—“Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.” This verse shapes the church’s mission: to call people to spiritual life and equip them to walk in the light of Christ.

We Preach the Bible
At Arise, we believe that the Bible is the very Word of God. It is the message of hope for our lives. We will endeavor to present, proclaim, and promote the truth of the Bible rather than our thoughts or opinions.

We Love Portland
At Arise, we are thrilled to be a part of this community. Portland is a wonderful place to live and is full of amazing people. God loves the people of this city and wants to have a relationship with them. We are honored and privileged to love this city and show Jesus to our community!

We Make Disciples
At Arise, we understand that our greatest commission is to be disciples who make disciples. We do this through evangelism and then helping new believers understand Jesus’ teachings so that they, too, will engage in making disciples.

We Prioritize Fellowship
At Arise, we know that the Christian life is not a solo endeavor. We need each other. We spend time together so that we can know each other and grow together. We bear each other’s burdens, pray for each other, and love each other.

We Serve Others
At Arise, we know that pure religion is caring for those who have no one to care for them. We know that loving those we come into contact with is second only to loving our God. Caring for people usually involves sacrifices, and we welcome the opportunities to give, serve, and love!
"By love serve one another." – Galatians 5:13
We Sing Passionately
At Arise, we understand that singing is a vital expression of praise and worship. As we allow the Holy Spirit to control our lives, one of the outflows will be a heart that sings. We sing passionately in congregational singing to praise and worship our good God.
"Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs..." – Ephesians 5:19
We Unite Around Essentials
At Arise, we know that every person in our congregation is different. No two are the same. We all come from different backgrounds and experiences. This diversity is to be celebrated in the church family! Diversity is no cause for division—as long as we choose to unite around the unchangeable, timeless, essential truths taught in the Bible. When we have disagreements in areas of less importance, we proceed with grace, love, and understanding!

We Participate in World Missions
At Arise, we believe that God desires to see all people come to know Him. He has given the task of taking the Gospel to every tribe, tongue, and nation to the local church—to our church. We engage this Great Commission by praying that the Lord of the harvest will send more laborers, by giving to support those who have surrendered to go, and by actively participating in evangelism.
